Season Opener Provides Valuable Experience Against Strong Hawken Squad

The Western Reserve Academy boys varsity tennis team opened its season on Thursday, April 2, hosting the Hawken Hawks after two early matches were postponed due to inclement weather. Hawken proved to be a strong opponent across the lineup, earning a 5–0 team victory.

At #1 singles, Roberts Sartor '26 competed in a match that was more competitive than the 2–6, 0–6 scoreline indicates, with several closely contested games. Collin Si '27 battled at #2 singles, falling 4–6, 3–6 in a solid effort against a consistent opponent.

Govi Chadalavada '27 highlighted the singles lineup with his resilience at #3. After dropping the opening set 3–6, he responded with a dominant 6–0 second set before ultimately falling 2–6 in the third.

In doubles play, Griffin Vaughn '26 and Sanam Mody '26 delivered a strong performance at #1 doubles, narrowly losing a first-set tiebreak before falling 6–7, 3–6. The #2 doubles team of Gordy Dix '26 and Victor Wang '26 competed in one of the closest matches of the day. After losing the first set 5–7, they answered with a 7–5 second-set win to force a deciding set, ultimately coming up just short in a tight third-set tiebreak.

Despite the result, WRA gained valuable early-season match experience against a quality opponent and will look to build on that effort when they host Chagrin Falls on Tuesday, April 7.
