Pioneers Fall in Tight Match at Cathedral Prep

The WRA boys varsity tennis team dropped a close 3–2 decision to Cathedral Prep on April 24 in a hard-fought match that came down to the final court.

WRA opened strong, sweeping both doubles matches to take an early 2–0 lead. At #1 doubles, seniors Roberts Sartor '26 and Sanam Mody '26 delivered a dominant 6–2, 6–1 victory. The #2 doubles team of Victor Wang '26 and Mekhi Hoyte '28 followed with an impressive 6–1, 6–3 win to give the Pioneers control heading into singles play.

Needing just one more point to secure the match, the momentum shifted during singles. At #1, Griffin Vaughn '26 battled after a slow start but fell 6–0, 6–4. At #2 singles, Colin Si '27 competed well but came up short against a strong opponent, 6–4, 6–3.

With the match tied 2–2, the outcome came down to #3 singles. Govi Chadalavada '27 competed in a grueling, two-hour match filled with long rallies and tight games. Despite a strong effort, he narrowly fell 7–5, 7–5.

WRA will look to bounce back when it returns home to face Perry High School on Tuesday, April 28.
