Pioneers Fall in Heartbreaker to CVCA

The WRA boys varsity tennis team came up just short in a tightly contested match on April 21, falling 3–2 to CVCA at home.

After a back-and-forth battle at #1 singles, Griffin Vaughn '26 took the opening set 6–3 before his opponent responded to claim the next two, 6–2 and 6–3. WRA answered in the middle of the lineup, where Colin Si '27 delivered a strong 6–3, 6–2 win at #2 singles, and Govi Chadalavada '27 followed with a solid 6–2, 6–4 victory at #3 to give the Pioneers a 2–1 lead heading into doubles.

The match ultimately came down to doubles play. At #1 doubles, Sanam Mody '26 and Mekhi Hoyte '28 rebounded from a 0–6 first set to take the second 6–4, but fell 2–6 in the deciding set. With the team score tied, the #2 doubles pairing of Victor Wang '26 and Alex Le Rouge '26 fought through a closely contested match. After dropping the first set 5–7, they responded with a 6–2 second-set win to force a deciding tiebreak. In a tight finish, CVCA edged out the tiebreak to secure the match.

Despite the loss, WRA showed resilience and competitiveness throughout, with the entire team rallying behind the decisive doubles match. The Pioneers will look to bounce back on Friday, April 24, when they travel to face Cathedral Prep.
