The WRA boys varsity tennis team broke through with a strong 4–1 victory over St. Ignatius on April 13 at home, evening its record at 1–1 and showing clear momentum early in the season.
WRA set the tone at the top of the lineup, where Griffin Vaughn '26 delivered a composed and commanding performance at #1 singles, earning a 6–0, 6–4 win. At #2 singles, Colin Si '27 demonstrated impressive resilience. After taking the first set 6–3 and dropping the second 1–6, he regrouped and dominated the third set 6–1 to secure the point.
In his first varsity appearance, Mekhi Hoyte '28 made an immediate impact at #3 singles, battling to a 7–5, 6–4 victory in a poised and confident performance.
The #1 doubles team of Roberts Sartor '26 and Sanam Mody '26 provided another key point, using their experience to earn a solid 6–4, 6–4 win against a competitive St. Ignatius pairing.
At #2 doubles, Gordy Dix '26 and Victor Wang '26 showed grit after dropping the opening set 2–6. They responded with a 6–3 second-set win to force a third, but ultimately fell 3–6 in a tightly contested match.
With the win, WRA looks to build on its momentum as it returns to action at home on Tuesday, April 14 against Mayfield.
