On an overcast afternoon in Aurora, the Western Reserve Academy Pioneers served up a convincing 4-1 victory over the host Greenmen, boosting their season record to an impressive 4-1.
The Pioneers dominated singles play, sweeping all three courts with a combination of poise, power, and persistence. Junior
Roberts Sartor ('26) set the tone early with a consistent and composed effort, dispatching his opponent 6-4, 6-2. Sophomore
Collin Si ('27) showcased both skill and grit—after taking the first set 6-2, he held his nerve in a tense second set that saw his opponent claw back to 5-5. Si dug deep and closed out the match 7-5 to secure a straight-sets win.
Meanwhile, senior
Arsh Goyal ('25) delivered a textbook performance of steady net play, controlling the tempo and rhythm throughout a 6-2, 6-4 win that left little doubt about his command of the match.
The Pioneers' momentum carried into the doubles matches, where the No. 1 team of
Keven Gong ('25) and
Griffin Vaughn ('26) made quick work of their opponents, cruising to a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory. The duo continues to be a rock-solid force at the top of the doubles lineup.
The only blemish on an otherwise stellar outing came at No. 2 doubles.
Chase Walker ('25) and Gordy Dix ('26) found themselves on the wrong side of a seesaw battle. After dropping the first set 6-4, they rebounded with a determined 6-2 second set to force a deciding match tiebreak. Unfortunately, the Greenmen edged them out 10-8 in the final tiebreaker set, salvaging a point for Aurora.
