After a humbling loss to Orange High School, the Western Reserve Academy Pioneers stormed back into the win column on Saturday with a commanding 5-0 sweep over the Worthington High School Cardinals. From start to finish, the match was all Pioneers, with dominant performances across both singles and doubles play.
Senior captains
Keven Gong and
Arsh Goyal took the reins on crafting the lineup, and their strategic choices paid off immediately. At No. 1 singles, junior
Roberts Sartor came out blazing, blanking his opponent 6-0 in the opening set. The second set proved more competitive as Sartor's opponent found some rhythm, but the steady junior held firm to close out the match 6-0, 7-5.
At No. 2 singles, junior
Griffin Vaughn kept his hot streak alive, dismantling his opponent with ruthless efficiency in a 6-0, 6-1 win. Meanwhile, Gong stepped into the singles arena for the first time this season and didn't miss a beat. The veteran senior played with poise and precision, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3.
Doubles action was equally one-sided. The No. 1 duo of
Arsh Goyal and junior
Sanam Mody were flawless in a 6-0, 6-0 shutout. Not to be outdone, the No. 2 team of
Collin Si ('27) and Govi Chadalavada ('27) dropped just one game on their way to a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win.
