On Tuesday night, the Western Reserve Academy wrestling team hosted Senior Night with a tri-dual against Norwayne High School and Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy.
Against Norwayne, seniors Adam Sindell (120 pounds), Calvin Werden (126 pounds) and Dawson Dunne (138 pounds) and freshman Daniel Ryu (144 pounds) all received wins by forfeit. Sophomore Hwan Jung (150 pounds) won his match by pin, and senior TJ Langley (165 pounds) won by a major decision! The dual was very competitive with Norwayne edging WRA 42-34.
The last dual of the night was against CVCA, who came away with a 59-18 victory. Junior Marco Cartella (144 pounds) and seniors Werden and Langley capped off the night with pins! Werden also won an exhibition match by a score of 6-3.
Five seniors were honored:
Adam Sindell, from Livermore, California, has played lacrosse and soccer for Reserve, but decided to try wrestling this season. He serves as a varsity starter in the lineup at 120 pounds. Adam is planning to study International Relations at Colorado College.
Dawson Dunne, from Ithaca, New York, has played hockey, soccer, and lacrosse for Reserve, but began wrestling last year. He is a two-year member of Pioneers wrestling. Dawson is still deciding where he wants to go to college, but he plans to study Philosophy.
Christian Fried, from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, boards at WRA. Christian is a four-year member of Pioneers wrestling. Christian is still deciding where he wants to go to college, but he plans to study Psychology. Â
Calvin Werden boards at WRA, but he is from nearby Willoughby, Ohio. This year, Calvin was the champion over large fields at both the Liberty Invitational and the Perrysburg Invitational. Calvin is finishing a fantastic high school career that saw him become a National Prep All-American, placing 8th in 2022. Calvin is still deciding where he wants to go to college, but he plans to study Business. Â
TJ Langley boards at WRA and is from Burghill, Ohio. This season, TJ placed 3rd at the Liberty Invitational, 4th at the Perrysburg Invitation, and 5th at Escape the Rock. TJ is finishing an accomplished high school career that saw him become a two-time National Prep All-American, placing 8th in 2021 and 2023. TJ has committed to wrestle for West Virginia University where he plans to study Biochemistry.
