In an electrifying contest on November 24, the WRA Varsity Girls Basketball team battled the Princeton Vikings in a hard-fought overtime match-up, ultimately falling 78-75.
The game was tightly contested from the start, with WRA leading 17-14 after the first quarter. However, Princeton guard Mari Gerton '25 (Florida State Commit) ignited the Vikings' offense in the second quarter, giving them a 35-31 lead at halftime.
WRA came out strong in the second half, with Brooklyn Hall '26 and Maya Nahar '25Â leading the charge. Key three-pointers by Islay Moore '25 and Jordyn Steindl '25Â gave the Pioneers momentum. Hall's clutch three-pointer with 10 seconds left in the third quarter gave WRA a narrow 53-52 lead.
The Pioneers extended their lead to 60-54 midway through the fourth quarter with layups from Hall and Nahar, but the resilient Vikings stormed back. A critical and-one play by Gerton and a game-tying three-pointer by Princeton sent the game into overtime, tied at 66.
The overtime frame mirrored the intensity of regulation. With Princeton holding a 76-75 lead and just 15 seconds remaining, they missed both free throws, giving WRA one final opportunity.
