The Western Reserve Academy Girls Varsity Basketball team hosted one of Ohio's top programs on Monday night, taking on Anthony Wayne High School, last year's OHSAA Division II runner-up and the current No. 7-ranked team in Division II. Despite a strong effort, the Pioneers fell 73–62 in a hard-fought contest.
Both teams traded momentum throughout the first half in a matchup that showcased two of the state's strongest squads. The Generals built a 12-point advantage late in the second quarter, but the Pioneers responded with composure and determination, cutting the deficit to 38–30 heading into halftime.
Anthony Wayne maintained its lead for much of the third quarter, but Reserve continued to fight back. With just under four minutes remaining in the period, the Pioneers trimmed the margin to five points, energizing the home crowd. However, the Generals answered with a pair of key baskets to push the lead back to double digits and maintained control the rest of the way.
Nina Bilic '28 led Reserve with 15 points, continuing her strong stretch of play. Maliyah Lofton '26 delivered an outstanding all-around performance with 12 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds. Avery Childress '29 added 11 points, while Eva Barron '27 recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Emerie Davis '27 contributed 7 points along with strong defensive and play-making efforts.
The Pioneers will look to bounce back Thursday night as they host cross-town rival Hudson High School for Senior Night.
