Balanced Effort Carries Pioneers to Opening-Round Victory

Western Reserve Academy opened the NERR Girls Hoop Series Ohio Challenge with a strong 58–46 win over CODE Sports Academy (CAN) on Friday night at home.

The Pioneers weathered a slow start, trailing by four points midway through the first quarter, before closing the period on a 9–4 run to take a one-point lead. From there, Reserve settled into a rhythm on both ends of the floor—pushing the pace in transition for easy baskets and sharing the ball effectively in the half court to generate high-percentage looks.

WRA extended its advantage to 30–19 by halftime and then delivered its most decisive stretch after the break. A big third-quarter run opened up the game, as the Pioneers built a commanding lead and went up 55–33 midway through the fourth quarter. Reserve maintained a comfortable double-digit cushion the rest of the way to secure the win.

Mercer commit Maliyah Lofton '26 led all scorers with 18 points, knocking down 6-of-8 from beyond the arc and adding three steals. Elon commit Norah Fuld '26 contributed a strong all-around performance with 10 points, four rebounds, and two blocks. Junior captain Emerie Davis '27 chipped in six points, five rebounds, two steals, and two assists, while sophomores Kobi Marsden '28 and Nina Bilic '28 each added seven points and six rebounds, combining for seven assists. Avery Childress '29 rounded out the scoring with five points and two assists.

The Pioneers will look to close out a perfect weekend on Saturday morning when they host Orangeville Prep (CAN) in the final game of the Ohio Challenge.
