The Western Reserve Academy girls varsity basketball team earned a convincing 72–46 road win over The Linsly School Cadets on January 28 in Wheeling, WV, in a rescheduled matchup from earlier in the month.
WRA got on the board quickly with a three-pointer from Milou de Heus '28, but a slow start kept the opening minutes tight, with the Pioneers holding just a four-point edge midway through the first quarter. Momentum shifted decisively when WRA went on a spirited 15–2 run, fueled by three-point shooting from Avery Childress '29, Kobi Marsden '28, and Lora Lingga '27, stretching the lead to 24–7. The Pioneers maintained strong energy for much of the second quarter, though a buzzer-beating three trimmed the halftime margin to 37–22.
Coming out of the break, WRA turned up the defensive pressure, stringing together stops and converting in transition. A quick 5–0 burst from Tara Nachbar '28, followed by a pair of layups from Nina Bilic '28, pushed the lead to 55–33 heading into the fourth quarter. From there, the Pioneers closed the game with poise and control to secure the 26-point victory.
Kobi Marsden '28 led the way with 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals, while Milou de Heus '28 added 12 points, 4 rebounds, and a block. Tara Nachbar '28 filled the stat sheet with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 6 steals, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. Nina Bilic '28 chipped in 8 points and 4 steals, and Eva Barron '27 contributed 8 points and 5 rebounds. Mia Lindal '26 added 7 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals, as WRA showcased balanced scoring and depth throughout the lineup.
The Pioneers now return home for seven of their next eight games, beginning Friday, January 30, against CODE Academy (CAN) at 4:40 PM to open The Girls Hoops Series – Ohio Challenge. Go Pioneers!
