The WRA Girls Varsity Basketball team wrapped up its weekend at the Classic in the City with a challenging matchup against Canadian national power Niagara Prep.
The young Pioneer squad faced an experienced Niagara Prep lineup featuring five Division I commitments (Stanford, UMass, Rice, Florida Gulf Coast, and St. Peter's). Niagara Prep set the tone early, knocking down multiple three-pointers and controlling the glass to build a significant advantage. WRA found itself trailing 37–15 after the opening quarter as Niagara Prep capitalized on its offensive rhythm.
Despite the score, the Pioneers continued to compete for all four quarters, battling through the physicality and pace of play. Niagara Prep maintained control throughout the second half, ultimately closing out the contest with a 70–32 victory.
The weekend provided valuable experience for WRA against elite competition, and the Pioneers will quickly turn their attention to another major test. Up next is their first-ever appearance at the Classic in the Country in Millersburg, Ohio, where WRA will face the #1-ranked team in OHSAA Division I, Kettering Fairmont HS (14–0), on Monday, January 19.
