The WRA Girls JV Tennis team wrapped up an outstanding season with a dominant 5–1 victory over Brecksville-Broadview Heights at home on Monday, October 6. The Pioneers showcased depth, teamwork, and resilience across all doubles courts to cap off their fall campaign in style.
The team set the tone early as Lauren Keller '27 and Nadia Kischke '26 powered through their match at #1 doubles with a convincing 6–2, 6–1 win, followed closely by Anna Barger '28 and Emily Zhang '27 who delivered another strong performance at #2 doubles, taking their match 6–1, 6–3.
Gabby Boykin '26 and Addie Mendelson '26, the team captains, earned a commanding 6–1, 6–2 victory at #4 doubles, demonstrating excellent communication and chemistry on the court. Their decisive win provided an early spark for the team.
The Pioneers also saw clutch performances from Sophia Song '27 and Sofia Khallafi '27, who cruised to a 6–2, 6–1 win at #5 doubles, while Rose Huang '28 and Wendy Zhang '29 showed true grit at #6 doubles. After dropping the first set 3–6, they battled back to win the second 6–2 and then edged out a dramatic 12–10 tiebreaker to secure WRA's fifth and final point of the day.
The only setback came at #3 doubles, where Sophia Gruhl '27 and Annie Markarian '27 fought hard but fell 1–6, 6–7 in a tight second set.
With this victory, the Pioneers conclude a stellar JV season, marked by teamwork, growth, and strong performances throughout the lineup. The future looks bright for WRA Girls Tennis heading into Fall 2026.
