The Western Reserve Academy boys basketball team delivered a strong performance on Wednesday night but suffered a heartbreaking 93–92 loss to Spire Post Grad in a tightly contested home matchup.
WRA controlled the first half, playing with pace and physicality to build a 61–46 advantage heading into the break. The Pioneers moved the ball well and attacked the glass, setting the tone with a high-energy offensive showing.
Spire chipped away in the second half, slowly closing the gap and setting up a dramatic finish. Despite WRA's continued fight and execution down the stretch, the visitors edged ahead late, escaping with the one-point victory.
Anthony Thompson '26 turned in a dominant performance, finishing with 27 points and 15 rebounds. Lukas McCanna '27 provided strong support with 13 points and five rebounds, while Henry Fox added 12 points to round out the scoring effort.
The Pioneers now look to regroup and respond, returning to action on Tuesday, January 20, when they host AIA Prep at home.
