The WRA Field Hockey team delivered one of its most exciting performances of the season on Thursday, September 25, battling powerhouse Hathaway Brown in a back-and-forth contest that ended in a narrow 3–4 loss.
The Pioneers came out strong, with Lydia Stropki '26 opening the scoring in the first quarter to give WRA an early lead. The team continued to press offensively in the second half, as Kenzie Kuhn '28 and Amaya Gomez '28 each found the back of the cage in the third quarter, sparking a thrilling rally that kept the game close until the final whistle.
Defensively, Amaya Gomez '28, Avery Harris '27, Claire Krapf '26, and Kelsey Schmid '28 were outstanding, holding off Hathaway Brown despite facing 13 penalty corners. In goal, freshman Sarah Johnson '29 had a phenomenal outing, recording 24 saves and keeping the Pioneers within striking distance throughout the match.
It was a spirited effort and a clear sign of the team's continued growth and resilience. The Pioneers will look to carry that momentum into their next matchup on Saturday, September 27, when the Pioneers travel to Mercersburg Academy.
