The Western Reserve Academy Pioneers surged into the Ohio Prep Conference (OPC) semifinals with an emphatic 87-72 quarterfinal win over O.U.R. Prep on Tuesday, fueled by standout performances and a dominant first-half effort. The victory sets up a high-stakes rematch against Athletes in Action in the semifinals on March 5.
Senior guard CJ Stinson delivered a masterclass, securing his second triple-double of the season with 17 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists. Stinson's all-around brilliance anchored WRA's offense, facilitating ball movement and controlling the tempo throughout the game.
Torr Sorensen '25 dominated the paint, tallying 24 points and 12 rebounds.. Meanwhile, Anthony Thompson '26 caught fire from beyond the arc, sinking 5-of-7 three-pointers en route to 23 points. The trio's combined efforts propelled WRA to a commanding 20-point halftime lead, which ballooned to 37 points in the second half.
The Pioneers' stifling defense and efficient shooting buried O.U.R. Prep early, but the opposition rallied late, applying aggressive full-court pressure to force turnovers and trim the deficit. Despite the surge, WRA's early cushion proved insurmountable, as they closed out the win to advance.
Next up is a semifinal clash against Athletes in Action (AIA), who handed WRA a loss in December. The Pioneers, now riding momentum and a fortified roster, aim to avenge that defeat and secure a spot in the OPC championship. Tip-off is set for Wednesday, March 5.
