Reserve Battles in EPL Session V, Eyes Set on Spire Showdown

Woodstock, VA – Western Reserve Academy's boys varsity basketball team competed in Session V of the Elite Prep League (EPL) Showcase this past weekend. The boys played two games in less than 24 hours at Massanutten Military Academy, splitting a pair of matchups ahead of a pivotal home clash.

Friday Fireworks: WRA Outguns Winston Salem Christian
The Pioneers tipped off the weekend with a thrilling 95-84 victory over Winston Salem Christian on Friday. Anthony Thompson '26 erupted for 30 points, 10 rebounds, and six three-pointers. CJ Stinson '25 flirted with a triple-double yet again, with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists, while Pavle Ridesic '25 delivered a breakout performance with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists. Donovan Carney '26 added 12 points (3 three-pointers), as WRA's unselfish play (29 assists) and long-range aggression (15-for-40 from three) overwhelmed their opponents. Winston Salem's Duquesne commit, Dom Aekins, impressed with 29 points, but the Pioneers' balanced attack prevailed.

Saturday Setback: Massanutten's Three-Point Barrage Halts WRA
Facing host Massanutten on Saturday, the Pioneers ran into a buzzsaw in guard Panagiotis Pagonis, who dropped a game-high 43 points (8 three-pointers) to power his team to a 97-82 win. Thompson '26 continued his stellar weekend with 34 points, Stinson '25 neared another triple-double (12 points, 8 rebounds, 11 assists), while Dom Sprague '26 battled hard for 19 points. However, Massanutten's consistent three-point shooting (14-for-28) and WRA's cold spell from deep (6-for-21) sealed the outcome.
