Western Reserve Academy opened its National Prep Showcase weekend with a hard-fought, high-level matchup against St. Thomas More, ultimately falling 85–82 in a game that came down to the final seconds. The Pioneers set the tone early, exploding for 46 first-half points and taking a 46–36 lead into halftime.
The second half featured constant swings in momentum, with both teams trading big plays down the stretch. With just six seconds remaining, St. Thomas More hit a contested three to pull ahead. WRA responded with a well-executed final possession, but Anthony Thompson's potential game-tying shot went in and out as the buzzer sounded.
Anthony Thompson '26 led the way with 23 points and 12 rebounds, anchoring WRA on both ends. Cam Hailey '26 added 18 points along with five rebounds and five assists, offering steady leadership in the back court. Breylon Webb '26 contributed 11 points and six rebounds in a strong two-way performance, while Asher Suardini '27 provided an efficient 10 points to round out a balanced offensive effort.
It was a gritty, poised showing from the Pioneers as they begin a demanding weekend on the national stage. Their next test comes on Saturday, November 22, when WRA faces Cushing Academy at the National Prep Showcase.
