Dayton, OH – Western Reserve Academy's boys varsity basketball team put up a fight but ultimately fell to Delaware Hayes 73-64 on Sunday, January 19th, at the annual Flyin' to the Hoop invitational.
Reserve found themselves in a deep hole early, trailing by 12 at halftime and as much as 21 points in the third quarter. Despite their struggles, the Pioneers mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring Delaware Hayes 28-19, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
Delaware Hayes was paced by Jeremiah Russell and Kent State commit Landon Vanderwarker, who each tallied 23 points.
Anthony Thompson ('26) led WRA with 20 points, while CJ Stinson ('25) continued to showcase his versatility, finishing just shy of a triple-double with 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. Dom Sprague ('26) chipped in 12 points to round out the scoring leaders for the Pioneers.
Reserve struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 6-for-22 from three-point range.
The Pioneers will look to regroup as they return home to host Grand River Academy this Wednesday, January 22nd, at 5 PM in the MAC.
