The WRA Girls Varsity Soccer team battled Archbishop Hoban to a hard-fought 0-0 draw in a high-intensity matchup from start to finish. The Knights reached the OHSAA state tournament Final Four in 2025, making Wednesday's performance an impressive test for the Pioneers.
WRA controlled much of the possession and consistently created opportunities while playing an attractive, attacking style of soccer. The Pioneers outshot Hoban 10-8 and generated several quality chances, but were unable to find the back of the net.
At the other end of the field, Sydney Swiderski '28 was outstanding in goal, making several key saves to preserve the clean sheet. The shutout marked Swiderski and the Pioneers' fifth shutout of the season. Through 10 games, WRA has allowed just eight goals.
The Pioneers' defensive effort was anchored by Hadley Bennett '29, Tessa Freeman '29, Aubrey Hauser '29, and Nikki Priban '29, who helped limit Hoban's attacking opportunities and keep the Knights off the scoreboard.
Although WRA could not convert its chances into a winning goal, the Pioneers showed strong possession, composure, and defensive organization throughout the match.
WRA will look to build on the performance Saturday night, September 26, when the Pioneers travel to Stow for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
