The WRA girls soccer team continued its impressive season on Thursday, October 8, earning a 4-1 victory over Hathaway Brown School to extend its winning streak to five games. The Pioneers remain undefeated at home with a perfect 7-0 record and improve to an outstanding 12-2-2 overall.
Hathaway Brown struck first, capitalizing on an early opportunity in the box to take the lead. WRA responded with a beautiful combination play as Maddie McNamara '27 laid off a pass to Campbell Brown '30, who finished confidently to even the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.
The Pioneers took control in the second half. Fifteen minutes after the break, Brown was taken down in the box, earning WRA a penalty kick. Junior Amelia Botros '28 stepped up and calmly converted to give WRA the lead. Just four minutes later, McNamara drew another penalty kick after being fouled in the box, and Botros delivered again, completing her brace and extending the Pioneers' advantage to 3-1.
WRA capped off the scoring with a spectacular finish from junior Emery Piero '28, who launched a lofted shot over the goalkeeper's head for her first goal of the season. The assist came from Cecilia Montalvo Fas '28. In goal, Syd Swiderski '28 anchored the defensive effort with seven saves on the night.
With contributions across the field and a strong second-half performance, the Pioneers continue to build momentum as they look ahead to their next challenge.
WRA travels to Columbus on Saturday, October 10, to take on Columbus Academy at 11:30 a.m. as the team looks to extend its winning streak to six games.
