The Western Reserve Academy girls varsity soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday, falling 2-0 to CVCA in a hard-fought contest.
The Pioneers battled throughout the match and created plenty of opportunities to find the back of the net, but they were unable to capitalize on their chances. CVCA's goalkeeper turned in an outstanding performance, making six fantastic saves to preserve the shutout.
Western Reserve goalkeeper Sydney Swiderski '28 also played well between the posts, recording four saves on the night and helping keep the Pioneers within striking distance.
After a scoreless battle for much of the match, CVCA broke through with two late goals to secure the 2-0 victory. Despite the result, the Pioneers have opened the season with an impressive 5-1-1 record and remain poised for a strong campaign.
Western Reserve will look to bounce back when the Pioneers return home to face Mansfield Christian on Thursday, September 17, at 7 p.m.
