Pioneers Girls Varsity Tennis Sweeps Shaker Heights to Remain Unbeaten on Season

The Girls Varsity tennis team hosted Shaker Heights on Monday and posted their 4th consecutive 5-0 sweep to move their season record to 4-0. A number of Pioneers played in new positions and posted impressive wins.

At #1 Singles, WRA's Lela Yajnik '27 set the pace with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over the Raiders' Vibha Balasubramaniam. The win moved Yajnik to the 50-career win mark, one of the top records in WRA girls tennis history. Pioneer Freshman Siena Lamie '30 stepped in to the #2 Singles spot and played a strong match, prevailing 6-0, 6-0 over Shaker's Anna Pollino. At #3 Singles, WRA Freshman Raelayn Davila '30 was equally strong and notched a 6-0, 6-0 match clinching victory over the Raiders' Paris Howell. The Pio's 4th point came at #1 Doubles where Sia Mahesh '27 and Bella Arakaki '28 played a strong match against a solid Shaker tandem of Caroline Collier and Nora Novak and came away with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. The final team point came at #2 Doubles, where WRA's Chloe Paturel '29 and Carina Tang '28 rose to the occasion, stopping Shaker's Emilia Chevraux and Eden Cohen, 6-2, 6-3.

The Pioneer Varsity will resume play on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, when they host Revere at the WRA tennis complex at 430pm. Both Varsity and Varsity B will be in action at home.
