The WRA Girls Varsity Volleyball team battled through a challenging road match against Normandy on August 29, ultimately falling 3-1. The Pioneers opened the match with a strong 25-20 victory before Normandy responded by taking the next three sets, 25-15, 25-21, and 25-14.

With three freshmen away on retreat and Cameron Van Dyke '29 sidelined with an injury, WRA faced the additional challenge of a new lineup and several players stepping into unfamiliar positions. The Pioneers responded by stepping up and competing hard throughout the match.

Amelia Owens '28 led the WRA offense with eight kills, while setters Riley Brainerd '28 and Carola Davila '28 combined for 21 assists, with Brainerd contributing 12 and Davila adding nine.

The Pioneers also turned in strong defensive performances. Livia Farian '28 led the team with 13 digs and added nine perfect serve-receive passes. McKenna Towsley '28 contributed 10 perfect serve-receive passes and five digs, while Riley Tepper '28 recorded eight serve-receive passes and seven digs.

Despite the loss, the Pioneers showed versatility and resilience as players took on new roles and helped the team navigate a challenging lineup situation.

WRA will look to bounce back when the Pioneers return home to host Lake Ridge on Wednesday, September 2.
