Western Reserve Academy girls varsity soccer continued its positive trajectory Thursday night, rallying for a 2-1 victory over NDCL in a rainy road contest. The win comes on the heels of the Pioneers' impressive victory over No. 2 state-ranked Bay High and marked WRA's fourth consecutive game on the road.
NDCL came out with energy and took a 1-0 lead in the first half, putting the Pioneers in an early hole. Reserve responded with determination after halftime, controlling the momentum and finding a way back into the match.
Freshman Campbell Brown '30 sparked the comeback when she was fouled in the box, earning the Pioneers a penalty kick opportunity. Twelve minutes into the second half, Amelia Botros '28 calmly delivered a beautifully placed penalty kick to level the match at 1-1.
Just five minutes later, WRA completed the comeback. Nikki Priban '29 sent a beautiful free kick into the box, setting up Maddie McNamara '27 for the game-winning goal and giving the Pioneers a 2-1 advantage.
The Reserve defense held strong over the final minutes to secure the victory, with goalkeeper Sydney Swiderski '28 making six saves on the night.
The Pioneers have now won consecutive games and improved to 9-2-2 on the season. After a demanding stretch on the road, WRA returns home Saturday, Oct. 3, to host Brecksville at 10 a.m.
