The WRA Girls Cross Country team continued to build momentum this past weekend, balancing a demanding week of training with a strong showing at the Tiffin Distance Carnival on Saturday. Following a challenging Friday time trial on one of Ohio's toughest home courses, four Pioneers made the early morning trip to Tiffin, representing the program with determination and pride.

Out of a massive field of 246 runners, the girls battled through crowded starts, tight turns, and rolling terrain. Kobi Marsden '28 once again led the way, placing 21st with a time of 21:48.9, just over a minute off her personal best—an impressive mark so early in the season. Her poise and race awareness stood out as she confidently navigated through the pack.

Close behind, Ellie Flores '27 made an immediate impression in her first-ever competitive 5K, finishing in 22:16.9 after only three practices. Ellie's strength and athleticism were on full display, and her commitment was unquestionable—she even suited up for the field hockey team later that same afternoon.

Team captains Leah Petras '27 and Caroline West '27 rounded out the group, finishing in 23:55.8 and 24:04.3, respectively. While both runners battled fatigue from a tough training block—and Caroline ran through the added challenge of a cold—they embodied the resilience and grit that define this year's team. As Coach Warner noted, "These days happen early in the season, and both girls will certainly bounce back."

With two weeks until their next official competition, the Pioneers will focus on sharpening fitness and form, while several runners aim to meet the 30:00 benchmark to qualify for the Sandy Valley Invitational on September 20.
