Strong Start Marks 40th Season of WRA Girls Cross Country

The WRA Girls Cross Country team officially kicked off its 40th season this past weekend, setting a strong tone for the fall. Saturday's Brian Armstrong Invitational at Northwest High School provided picture-perfect weather and a promising start for the Pioneers, who continue to build momentum through early-season training and competition.

Three runners represented WRA at the meet, each turning in an encouraging performance. Kobi Marsden '28 led the way with a smooth and confident race, finishing 23rd overall out of 97 varsity and JV runners in a time of 22:36—an impressive early-season effort following a summer focused on basketball training. Leah Petras '27 was close behind, finishing 29th in 23:20, just ten seconds off her personal best on the same course as a freshman. After spending last year recovering from a knee injury, her return to form was especially exciting to see. Caroline West '27 rounded out the trio, crossing the line 32nd in 23:56, a strong first step in her comeback from an indoor track injury last winter.

Head Coach Jeff Warner praised the group for their work ethic and resilience, noting that while the season is still young, the team is quickly rounding into shape: "Once we have at least two more runners capable of running 26:00 or better, we'll have a complete squad ready to compete. But it's my hope that all of you will wear the green and white this year."

With the foundation set and a roster filled with determined athletes, the Pioneers are poised to carry on WRA's proud cross-country tradition—one built on toughness, camaraderie, and steady improvement.

The team will continue training this week in preparation for its next meet, as runners across all experience levels aim to join the scoring lineup and contribute to another memorable season for WRA Girls Cross Country.
