In a nail-biting showdown at the She Got Game Classic, the WRA Girls Varsity Basketball team showcased grit and resilience, securing a dramatic 62-57 overtime victory against the Oak City Prep Bears.
Despite a sluggish start and early foul trouble, the Pioneers battled to keep the game close, trailing 26-24 at halftime. Energized by bench contributions from Glory Kabia '25, Sheridan Oberhand '25, and Alia Cordone '25, WRA weathered a challenging first half.
Oak City Prep built a seven-point lead midway through the third quarter, but Brooklyn Hall '26 responded with a tough layup and a three-pointer in transition. A clutch three from Cordone helped WRA cut the deficit to two, entering the fourth quarter down 39-37.
The fourth quarter was a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to convert. Turnbull's late layup gave WRA their first lead since early in the game, but Oak City Prep quickly regained the edge. A crucial steal and score by Kabia swung the lead back to WRA, only for Oak City Prep to retake it in the final minute.
With 1.8 seconds remaining and WRA trailing 48-45, Lilah Turnbull '25 executed a perfect full-court pass to Maya Nahar '25, who found Oberhand '25. From 35 feet out, Oberhand nailed the game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime.
In OT, Oberhand delivered two key assists to Nahar, while Hall, Moore, and Oberhand hit clutch free throws to seal the 62-57 victory. The win extends WRA's streak to five games heading into the winter break.
