Thomas Adams-Wall

Coach Adams-Wall began his coaching career at the college level as a student-assistant at the College of Wooster, where he previously played for two years. In 2011, the team was the NCAA Division III National Runners Up. Afterwards, he joined the Pioneers as an assistant on the WRA Boys Basketball team before taking over the Head Coach position for five years. Now, he is in his fifth season as the Head Coach of the WRA Girls Basketball team. He also coaches with the United Family Basketball Club on the Adidas 3SSB circuit. In 2016, Coach Adams-Wall received his masters degree in athletic administration and has helped the Admission Office with athletic recruitment for many years.

Coach Adams-Wall attributes his passion for basketball to his father, who was his coach until his passing while he was in eighth grade. Between his father and College of Wooster coach Steve Moore, for whom he played and with whom he coached, Coach Adams-Wall has had great mentors who have helped develop his own coaching strategies. Coach Moore is one of the winningest coaches in NCAA basketball history with 867 wins to his name. His attention to detail, fundamentals, team concepts and defense have tremendously helped Coach Adams-Wall in his own career. Additionally, core values of respect, integrity, trust and growth are those that he instills in his team after learning them from his own coaches and mentors.

Coach Adams-Wall believes that coaching at WRA offers a unique opportunity to have a positive impact on a student’s high school experience. He follows a developmental approach where his team is not just working on improving individual skills and getting better every day, but also teaching athletes about being part of a team—what it means to be a part of something bigger than themselves.

A boarding school graduate himself, Coach Adams-Wall was a three-sport varsity athlete at the Governor’s Academy in Massachusetts, playing football, basketball and baseball. He served as the captain of his basketball team. At WRA, Coach Adams-Wall also serves as the Director of Boarding Admission & Athletic Liaison in the Admission Office. He lives in and is the Dorm Head of Seymour Guest House. He spends much of his free time rooting on his hometown New York sports teams. He is a Jets, Knicks, Yankees and Rangers fan. He enjoys spending time with his family, friends and two dogs Kenya and Riggins.
