Dr. Ralf Borrmann has been an integral part of WRA’s athletics and academics programs for many years. A native of Heidesheim, Germany, Ralf grew up playing soccer, and his passion for the sport led him to coaching at boarding schools starting in 1992. At WRA, he has coached boys soccer for decades, beginning with the C-squad from 1995 to 2005, before transitioning to the role of Varsity assistant coach for Coach Herb Haller ‘85. Ralf also spent 25 years coaching JV Baseball at WRA, sharing his love of sports with countless students.
In addition to his coaching roles, Dr. Borrmann is the Chair of the Modern & Classical Languages Department and an instructor of French and German. He also serves as the CL Compass coordinator. Ralf works closely with his wife, Christine '84, in the department, and together they support students in their language studies. He is also the proud parent of Max '16 and Sophie '20.
Outside of the classroom and the field, Ralf enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, kayaking and fishing, as well as traveling and reading.
Coach Borrmann’s coaching philosophy centers around creating an environment where athletes learn respect, integrity, humility and empathy. He believes that these values are essential for athletes to handle both victories and defeats with integrity. For Borrmann, every practice and game is an opportunity for growth and character development, both on and off the field.
