Michael Bonomo

Coach Bonomo has coached at WRA in three different stints since 2002 (2002-13, 2021-22 & 2023-present). After a sabbatical last year, he and his wife, and assistant coach, Katie, are enthusiastic to return to leading the future of the storied program. Coach Bonomo began a dedicated swimming career at age five, swimming for many local USA clubs in the Cleveland area before attending Saint Ignatius High School, where he swam for four years. His career at Saint Ignatius earned him a spot on the national powerhouse Kenyon College swim team, where he was a 10x All-American (500 FR (4x), 100 BR, 400 IM and 1650 FR (4x)), a 3x National Champion and 3x National Record Holder at the NCAA Division III National Championship Meet. In 2001, Bonomo also had the honor of attending the USA Senior National Swimming Meet for USA Swimming.

His achievements have allowed him to cultivate a culture in the WRA swim program of health, commitment and support, as they work to achieve their own individual and collective goals. From new to elite swimmers, Coach Bonomo has a passion for teaching the fundamentals of swimming. He is excited to develop athletes in the pursuit of competition and enjoys helping them to understand the importance of long-term health and wellness.

Bonomo remains committed to his own health and wellness, working out daily through running, cycling, rowing, lifting and participation at OrangeTheory Fitness. He enjoys sharing his passions with all he encounters. In his free time, Coach Bonomo spends time with his wife and their children, Ryan and Molly, who are also involved in athletics. One of his favorite hobbies is woodworking. He enjoys creating small and large furniture and decorative pieces for friends and family.
