  • Title
    Assistant Coach - Swimming
Coach Nelson comes to WRA after coaching tennis for one year at Cuyahoga Falls High School and has also been an assistant to junior tennis camps in Florida. He played Division I tennis at the University of Akron from 1992-1996, and after college he played USTA and represented the state of Ohio in the 4.0 level in 2006.

Currently, he competes in Ironman triathlon events and completed two full Ironman and six half-Ironman competitions. Other things Coach Nelson enjoys are trail running/hiking and playing Pickleball. He is a certified Zumba instructor and would love to somehow incorporate that into WRA's community. He and his partner have two Boston Terriers (Lincoln & Bug) and a cat (Gus). He was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, and received a tennis scholarship at the University of Akron, where he received his undergraduate, master's and Ph.D. degrees, as well as teaching in their Mathematics Department for over 20 years.

His coaching philosophy asks, "for students to just enjoy what they are doing and respect their teammates and their competitors. There are some highs and many lows while playing sports; but, at the end of the day, it's how you treat people."
