Coach Elliot Zetzer brings a blend of personal running experience and coaching expertise to the Boys Cross Country team at Western Reserve Academy. A former varsity track athlete and basketball player at Mayfield High School, Coach Zetzer has continued his running journey as an adult, completing three full marathons, including a notable 3:22:53 at the Akron Marathon.

Coach Zetzer has been coaching distance track at WRA since 2020 and expanded his role to coaching cross country in 2021. His coaching philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that success is built on discipline, resilience and consistency. He emphasizes the importance of mental and physical strength, inspired by Coach Chaput’s mantra: “You have to get strong before you can get fast.” Coach Zetzer encourages athletes to honestly assess their capabilities and commit to the hard work necessary to exceed their own expectations.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Coach Zetzer serves as the Chair of the English Department, is an advisor for the Reserve Record, and participates in the Wood House dorm crew. Outside of school, he remains an avid runner, participates in summer league ultimate with the Canton/Akron Ultimate Association and enjoys backpacking, including recent hikes in the George Washington National Forest and the John Muir Trail.
