Coach Erik Chaput came to WRA in 2021 after eight years at the helm of the Lawrenceville School Track and Field Program in New Jersey. During his time at Lawrenceville, Coach Chaput and his student-athletes were well-decorated, with over 25 records broken and two Coach of the Year awards.
Coach Chaput began his coaching career in Providence, RI, in 2001 at St. Raphael Academy. After a break during his graduate school years at the Maxwell School at Syracuse University (2005-2010), Coach Chaput was an assistant coach at Northfield Mount Hermon School in western Massachusetts. He became the head of the Lawrenceville School's boys track team in 2013. He served as the head girls coach from 2016-2021 and the Director of the Programs from 2018-2021.
In his three year tenure at WRA, six school records have already been broken in girls sprints. Coach Chaput is a versatile indoor and outdoor track coach with strengths ranging form 55m-3200m, along with the long jump and triple jump. On campus, Coach Chaput teaches history, is a dorm resident and faculty advisor, and stays busy with wife Katie, also a coach and faculty member, and their four children.
Coach Chaput gave the following wisdom regarding his coaching philosophy, "I want to help student-athletes believe in themselves and reach their true potential by developing an "I can" attitude.
