Katie Bonomo

Coach Katie Bonomo brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the volleyball program at Western Reserve Academy, where she has been coaching for 19 years. Her passion for the game is matched only by her dedication to developing student-athletes who excel both on and off the court. With over a decade of coaching volleyball, Coach Bonomo fosters a team-focused environment that emphasizes hard work, collaboration and sportsmanship.

In addition to her volleyball coaching career, Coach Bonomo is also a seasoned swimming coach at WRA, having led the swim team for 12 years. With 17 years of competitive swimming experience, including a successful collegiate career at DePauw University where she was a five-time All-American, Katie’s expertise in the water, particularly in backstroke and the individual medley, complements her coaching prowess in volleyball.

Outside of coaching, Katie is a mathematics teacher at WRA and serves in a variety of leadership roles, including as an ISACS (Independent School Association of the Central States) coordinator and a member of the ISACS Board of Trustees. She also provides guidance as a dorm advisor and enjoys building relationships with students in these various capacities.

Coach Bonomo lives off campus with her husband, Michael, and their two children, Ryan and Molly. Together, they enjoy an active lifestyle of pickleball, volleyball, hiking in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and taking on cooking challenges like Iron Chef competitions.

Coach Bonomo’s coaching philosophy is simple yet impactful: work hard, have fun and commit to a lifetime of health, wellness, and movement. Her approach focuses on developing athletes not only in their sport but as individuals who value teamwork, dedication and personal growth.
