Doug Wenger joined Western Reserve Academy as the Head Coach for Girls Varsity Tennis in 2024, bringing over 25 years of experience as a Racquet Sports Professionals Association (RSPA) Certified Teaching Professional. His impressive playing career includes accolades such as being a two-time MVP and state semi-finalist at Springfield High School in Michigan, where he set the school record with over 100 career wins.  He played collegiately at Western Michigan University, where he was recognized as a Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete, and at Ferris State University, where he served as captain and MVP.  He continues to play competitively and has achieved a top-50 national ranking, along with winning five Midwest Championships. Wenger’s achievements also include gold medals in both singles and doubles at the National Senior Games and the USA Masters Games, as well as helping his Midwest Senior team win the Bronze Medal in the 2024 National Intersectional Team Championships.

Wenger’s coaching credentials are equally distinguished. He is a RSPA Elite Level Certified Professional and a member of the RSPA Midwest Hall of Fame's Class of 2024. His coaching career includes leading teams to national success, such as guiding the Midwest Junior Team Tennis team to a national silver medal and coaching College All-Americans and NCAA Championship competitors. His contributions to the sport extend beyond coaching, as he has served as a Presidential Appointee to the US Tennis Association Governance Committee and served as a past president of the USTA/Midwest Section.

At WRA, Coach Wenger’s philosophy revolves around respect — for oneself, opponents, teammates and the game itself. He believes the discipline and healthy lifestyles provided by athletics can provide lifetime benefits.  His dedication to developing well-rounded student-athletes is evident in his extensive career and commitment to the sport.
