Coach Patrick Sweeney brings a wealth of experience and success to his role as the Boys Soccer Coach at Western Reserve Academy. His playing career includes stints with the Cleveland Force MISL Reserves from 1984 to 1986 and Cleveland State University from 1986 to 1988. Sweeney’s coaching achievements are extensive, with a track record of excellence that includes leading teams to numerous championships and earning multiple Coach of the Year honors.

Coach Sweeney's notable accolades include winning the OHSAA Division III State Championship with Hawken School in 2000, and being named the Cleveland Whitecaps Coach of the Year in 2015. He has also played a significant role in the success of his former players, including Jenna Hellstrom, who represented the Canadian Women’s National Team at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. His coaching career features a MAC Regular Season Championship in 2017, NCAA Women’s College Cup appearance in 2016, and several conference titles and national championships across various leagues.

At WRA, Sweeney serves as the Assistant Director of External Programs while coaching the Boys Soccer team. His coaching philosophy emphasizes empowering players to make autonomous decisions on the field, fostering an environment where players can solve problems and adapt during games. This approach reflects his commitment to developing not just skilled athletes, but intelligent and independent thinkers.
