The WRA Girls Varsity Tennis team capped a memorable Senior Day with its second sweep of the afternoon, defeating Cathedral Prep (PA) 5–0 on Saturday, September 13, at the WRA Tennis Center. The victory pushed the Pioneers' season record to a perfect 10–0 in front of an energized crowd of more than 100 fans.
Freshman Rithi Hegde '29 opened the scoring at No. 2 singles with a convincing 6–1, 6–2 win over Ella Fetzner, before Sia Mahesh '27 extended the lead to 2–0 at No. 3 singles with a commanding 6–1, 6–0 performance over Katie Kuhar. The clinching point once again came from the reliable No. 1 doubles pairing of Lela Yajnik '27 and Sasha Hillard '29, who defeated Rory Brugger and Lydia Beuchert 6–2, 6–2. The victory marked Yajnik's 40th career win, while the pair remain unbeaten together in 2025.
At No. 2 doubles, Riya Patel '26 and Carina Tang '28 delivered a strong 6–3, 6–2 win over Elizabeth Hutchinson and Addie Blakely to remain undefeated as a duo this season. The day concluded with an outstanding battle at No. 1 singles, where senior co-captain Denisse Jimenez Robles '26 faced off in a rematch with Cathedral Prep's Paige Patsy. In a hard-fought contest that lasted over two hours, Jimenez Robles showcased her trademark grit, prevailing 6–1, 6–4 to seal the sweep.
Following the match, the Pioneer community gathered to celebrate the team's seniors, recognizing their leadership, dedication, and impact both on and off the court. The day served as both a competitive triumph and a heartfelt celebration of a remarkable group of student-athletes.
