On Thursday, September 11, the Western Reserve Academy Girls Varsity Tennis team traveled to Shaker Heights for a NEO High School League match. The Pioneers turned in a dominant performance across all courts, earning a 5-0 sweep to remain unbeaten at 8-0 on the season.
Reserve wasted no time establishing control. Rithi Hegde '29 opened the scoring with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win at #2 singles over Hailey Scott. Sia Mahesh '27 quickly followed, cruising past Vibha Balasubramaniam 6-0, 6-1 at #3 singles.
The clinching point came from the #2 doubles team of Riya Patel '26 and Carina Tang '28, who delivered a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win over Nora Novick and Sasha Sindwani. With the result, Patel and Tang remain undefeated this season as a tandem.
At #1 doubles, the unbeaten pairing of Lela Yajnik '27 and Sasha Hillard '29 continued their strong run with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Parisa Tendulkar and Caroline Collier. Yajnik and Hillard played steady, composed tennis to secure the fourth point.
The sweep was completed at #1 singles, where co-captain Denisse Jimenez Robles '26 battled Shaker's talented freshman Ameya Bole. In the day's most competitive match, Jimenez Robles pulled away at key moments in each set, closing out a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 win.
The Pioneers return home on Saturday, September 13, for a doubleheader against Strongsville and Cathedral Prep.
