The WRA Girls Varsity Tennis team hosted a match doubleheader and Senior Day on Saturday and came away with two nice 4-1 wins. In the morning match, WRA defeated previously unbeaten and 2023 Pennsylvania Final 4 Cathedral Prep 4-1. In the afternoon match, the Pioneers scored a 4-1 win over Toledo Notre Dame Academy. The two wins moved WRA to a perfect 11-0 record on the season.

In the morning match, the Pioneers needed 2 hours and 16 minutes to close out the win. The #1 Doubles team of Lela Yajnik '27 and Sia Mehesh '27 posted a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Marge Prichard and Lili Beuchert of Prep to claim the first point. The match remained 1-0 for an extended time as all other courts were playing tightly contested matches. WRA's #2 Doubles team of Sehar Mahesh '25 and Riya Patel '26 then staked the Pioneers to a 2-0 lead with a come from behind 4-6, 6-0, 10-5 win over the Ramblers Lydia Beuchert and Katie Kuhar. Shortly after, Denisse Jimenez-Robles '26 won the clinching match, rebounding from a first set loss to defeat Prep's Sophia Glance 6-7(5), 6-0, 10-6 at #3 Singles The Ramblers made it 3-1 when Finleigh Handzel at #2 Singles notched a tight win over WRA's Mikaela Chirita '26 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. WRA's Riya Hegde closed out the 4th team point with a 7-6(1), 6-2 win over Prep's Paige Patsy at #1 Singles.

In the afternoon match, Denisse Jimenez-Robles '26 got things started for the Pioneers with a 6-1, 6-1 win over NDA's Hannah Tam at #3 Singles. She was quickly followed by WRA's Mikaela Chitita '26 who posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over the Eagles' Catherine Tohme. Riya Hegde '25 scored the clinching point for WRA at #1 Singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over NDA's Nora Johnson. The Eagles made it 3-1 with their #2 Doubles team of Lindsey Stapleton and Anna Shidyak defeated WRA's Sehar Mahesh '25 and Riya Patel '26 7-6(4), 6-1. The Pioneers bounced back to win the 4th point at #1 Doubles when Lela Yajnik '27 and Sia Mahesh '27 took home a 6-4, 6-4 win over NDA's Emily Miller and Beth Miller.

The Girls Varsity Tennis team's next match is on Wednesday, September 18, when they travel to Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin in a match up of two strong teams.
