The WRA Girls Varsity Tennis ran its record to 3-0 and 1-0 in league play on Tuesday with a
come from behind 3-2 win on the road against a very good Hawken team.
Hawken jumped out to a 2-0 lead led by strong play from their #1 and #3 Singles positions. At
#1 Singles, Dani Forte of Hawken, one of the state's top players, was hitting all the shots and
defeated WRA's
Riya Hegde '25, 6-1, 6-1 in a quality match. The match score is not indicative
of Riya's determination, grit and spirit to play hard from start to finish. Hawken's #3 Singles
player Bella Hseih, another veteran player, started strong and played an impressive match to
prevail over the Pioneer's
Sia Mahesh '27, 6-1, 6-1. Sia did not give up, played quality tennis
and kept competing to the end. WRA's #2 Doubles,
Sehar Mahesh '25 and
Lela Yajnik '27,
notched an important 6-3, 6-2 win over Brooke Henkel and Raina Sethi on a windy and sunny
court to stem the tide temporarily. Pioneer Mikaela (Mika) Chirita '26 then evened things up at
2-2 with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-3 win at #2 Singles over Valeria Kislyansky. That set the stage for
the #1 Doubles team of Denisse Jimenez-Robles '26 and
Riya Patel '26 to post a thrilling 6-4,
3-6, 10-2 tiebreaker win over Vanessa Grajzl and Anya Simpendorfer to clinch the match.
The Girls Varsity Tennis and JV teams are at home on Wednesday, August 28 against Laurel.
Match time is approximately 430pm.
