The WRA Girls Varsity Tennis played a tough Kenston team on Monday and after almost two hours, came away with a tight 3-2 victory at the WRA Tennis Courts. With the win, the Pioneer Girls Varsity moves to 2-0 on the season.

At #2 Doubles, Sehar Mahesh '25 and Lela Yajnik '27 continued their winning ways and started things off with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Sadie Petrash and Alayna Murphy. The Pioneers #1 Doubles team of Denisse Jimenez Robles '26 and Riya Patel '26 followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Sabrina Billock and Giulia Badilotti. Kenston evened things up with wins at #1 Singles and #3 Singles. At #1 Singles, Kenston's Brooke McNeal picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win over WRA's Riya Hegde '25. In a battle of two of the top players in the region, the Pioneer's #1 player battled hard but fell to a very strong player. Kenston evened the match score at 2-2 when Anna Spivak picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over WRA's Sia Mahesh '27 at #3 Singles. Mahesh did all she could but came up a little short. With the match tied 2-2, the deciding match was the #2 Singles contest. WRA's Mikaela Chirita '26 prevailed in a match tiebreaker victory over Alex Ungaro 1-6, 6-3, 10-6. Chirita's win clinched the victory for the Pioneers 3-2.

The Girls Varsity Tennis team hits the road on Tuesday, August 27, with a match at Hawken in a Division A Northeast Ohio tennis conference matchup. Match time is approximately 4:30 p.m.
